Greg | Partner & Stylist

Gregory opened Laru Ni Hati 23 years ago with his partner Alan. “At the time I did not know anything about cutting hair except that I didn’t think I had any talent for it. I should have known that I might though. All four of my grandparents earned a living in this country with their hands. They all came as orphans in the 1920′s after the Turkish massacre to New York City, where you didn’t have to speak English to get a job. About 6 years into growing Laru Ni Hati into the neighborhood business it has become I realized that one of the owners needed to learn hair just in case. I went to school in 1996 and was the first hair student graduated by Aveda institute here in Albuquerque. There were no instructors for the first 4 months but I got out with the basics. I realized that I didn’t feel comfortable with my skill set so I traveled to places like Vidal Sassoon in California and Miami, Bumble and Bumble in New York City, The Redken Exchange in New York City, American Crew in Denver, Wella / Sebastian in Los Angeles, and Jacques Dessange in Paris for hands on workshops to improve and expand what I knew and how I did it. I try to share everything that I learn because it keeps me thinking about how and why we do what we do. My artwork has evolved over time as I change and experience life but some things stay constant. I try to make a connection with each customer. I want each person to leave happy. My goal is to make the most of what the client has and to keep the artwork fun and simple. Simple takes a lot less time to fuss with and looks good even if you do nothing to it.”
